Patrick has dedicated his professional life to driving growth, bringing business strategy, talented people and technology together to develop and deploy world-class capability. He is passionate about navigating through, and capitalizing on, disruptive innovation.
Over the last 25 years, he has held leadership roles at IBM, Dimension Data and KPMG before joining Virtual Control in early 2020.
During this time he has contributed to the success of leading companies across the technology, telecommunications, logistics, financial services and public sectors. Some of his accomplishments include developing Autonomic Computing solutions and internet platforms in the 90s, deploying large scale Natural Language Programming in the early 2000s, successfully deploying some of the first cloud based solutions for banking services and energy companies in Asia Pacific and leading a USD$100m+ transformation program in 2015.
Originally from Australia, Patrick graduated with an MBA from Queensland University of Technology as a member of the 1% Club, specializing in Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Governance. He has also studied Blue Ocean Strategy at Insead Fontainebleau and MIT’s Approach to Design Thinking and is currently studying a Masters of Law (LLM) at King’s College London
GROWTH & INVESTOR RELATIONS
In the fall of 2017, Tom left Bureau Veritas (BV) where he had been Head of Strategic Market Development, to start Virtual Control. In his role at BV, Tom interacted daily with the world’s largest technology, consumer product, and industrial companies. Prior to BV, Tom was the Head of Commercialization for an R&D start-up focused on IC controller chip design for advanced sensor networks. He has managed a 2,000-person contract manufacturing plant for medical devices in China, though most of his early career was spent at Li & Fung Ltd out of Hong Kong, China and South East Asia where he directly managed multiple business divisions over 7 years.
Originally from New York, Tom earned a diploma from Hong Kong International School, before graduating from University of Pennsylvania with a BA and attending Cornell University’s FALCON (Mandarin Language) Program.
CHIEF COGNITIVE OFFICER
A former Google software engineer of 7 years, Florian worked on the Search Quality team and the team that launched Google Photos. On the Photos team, Florian was focused on using machine intelligence to power features such as search for people, places and things; automatically generated movies; offline photos search; and suggested photo sharing.
Florian also co-founded an Internet advertising company called LinkLab.
Florian spent the first 6 years of his career at Oracle in Silicon Valley developing software and working on major solutions for healthcare. Florian holds a Bachelor and Masters in Computer Science from Cornell University
Tamas has spent most of his professional life solving complex problems for clients in the oil and gas industry delivering world class solutions in subsea robotics whilst driving programs to improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime and disrupt industry norms with digital innovation.
Over the past 16 years, he has held a number of key technical and commercial roles at Oceaneering before branching out to co-found Virtual Control in 2017 with old school friends Thomas and Florian.
During his time at Oceaneering he contributed to the success of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) division in key technical roles ensuring quality delivery, startup excellence and operational improvements setting gold standards for uptime globally. Following this he provided commercial technical solutions support to a range of divisions within the company helping drive industry innovation merging solutions from robotics, survey, inspection, telecommunications and software divisions to disrupt the industry.
Born in Hong Kong, Tamas graduated from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia with a BSc Hons in Spatial Information Systems and Physical Geography specialising in hyperspectral imaging and geographic information systems.
CHIEF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS OFFICER
Keen is a business leader that is passionate about fostering relationships with customers and throughout the organisations he works in while developing growth in people and teams. He is results-driven with a proven record of delivering innovation, driving change, business growth, solving complex problems and re-invigorating operations.
His 14 years of experience has seen him work across risk management, internal audit, supply chain and procurement with Ernst and Young, KPMG and Rochdale Spears Group; holding global and regional leadership positions in supply chain and technology with the latter two organisations.
His contribution to successful outcomes include turning around an implementation of a large scale ERP project spanning 6 legal entities and 5 countries, setting up and leading the APAC supply chain COE to support $30M of wins in a year and delivering a program of work that reduced $100M+ of credits. He has repeatedly applied his unique blend of commercial acumen, analytical thinking and entrepreneurship to provide value adding and innovative insights that that culminated in the delivery of projects with lasting positive impacts.
Born in Malaysia, Keen grew up in Australia and has lived in the US, Canada, France, Germany and now Hong Kong; he has completed post graduate qualifications in Risk Management and Financial and is passionate about food, cooking, travelling, wine and snowboarding. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to combine some of those passions through starting a food business he after completing his time on Masterchef Australia in 2012.
Sarah is a former Java engineer and integrations manager with a passion for efficient software design and seamless user experience. She has long found herself gravitating to roles and projects that fall neatly at the intersection of technology and business, starting her career as a Technology Consultant at EY, and progressing to more operational and product-focused roles at a B2B start-up, Yext, in New York City’s “Silicon Alley”.
Sarah moved from New York to Hong Kong in early 2019 to lead the development of Virtual Control’s enterprise platforms for industry. She manages a cross-functional product team and works closely with team members and partners around the globe to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
